Darwin, Northern Territory
Leaving Kakadu, we traveled on a backroad back to Darwin, capital of the Northern Territory, to catch our plane back to Brisbane and Noosa. The road was so red that Catherine kept murmuring something about blood from the backseat. And then we stopped to search a billabong for crocodiles. Coincidence? Huh.
Arriving in Darwin, we headed straight for the outdoor market. While I waded out about a mile to swim in the warmest ocean water I’ve ever felt, those guys meandered through the shops, eventually reconvening on the beach for some good ol’ kite-flying.
We had dinner in the golden light of the setting sun, quizzing locals about what Ocean we were on the coast of – no one seemed to know.
We listened to this amazing band Jabaru (like the bird) play, just one couple (sounds almost oxymorinic, no?, like a pair) making the most eclectic mix of sound you can imagine. Then we hopped a flight to Brisbane.
