Around Batur

Later that afternoon, opted for the tiny motorbike instead of the surely the-death-of-me dirtbike. Went with Ketut to the temple at the end of the lake, through Songan and up a steep road, chugging the bikes to the road on the crater rim.

We drove all the way around the crater, stopping for the occasional photo op. We passed through wide open spots, pine forests, on dirt roads cobbled with old pavement, through Kintamani, ending at another temple perched above a fishing village below, by the lake.

The views of the lake were amazing,

and the lava rock/eucalyptus spot on the road back to Toya Bunghka was one of the prettiest ecosystems I've ever seen.

A very nice ride, and a great way to end my short stay here. I'm leaving tomorrow, though, as I'm a transient to everyone anyway. I'm going to take the best that Batur has given me and escape to Sanur. This has been a unique spot to visit, and I've made good friends. I've had Hinduism and many other local customs explained to me, shared some beautiful moments and some good beers. I've enjoyed some of the finest views in Bali, and soaked in hot springs to cap the day. I might never return, but I'll always remember this little spot in the middle of the volcano.
